The Accommodation...

This accommodation and breakfast is available on several sites in the north around national parks such as Tanongou, Alfakoara, Karimama, Koussoukoingou.

This type of accommodation is generally in the form of traditional round hut, the furniture is often basic (beds with mosquito nets, table and chairs). On some sites of sunlamps may be available to you. The peculiarity lies Koussoukoingou where accommodation is under the stars on the roof of a Tata Otammari (Somba country). On all these sites, for the sake of preservation and environmental protection, Eco-Benin has set up systems to bucket showers and toilets.

The difference...

For villagers in nearby national parks in northern Benin, firewood is the main source of cooking energy. This project aims to teach the villagers to build their traditional homes according to new standards of energy efficiency. The amount of firewood used has been reduced by almost half with the reduction of health risks.

This project aims to benefit local communities by teaching them about waste management. In Aheme, a rural village in the North of Benin, under the leadership of the teachers involved and responsible for an eco-guide (who is a painter) children participate in workshops of painting on canvas. Beyond the fun, the children were asked to identify the good and bad environmental actions. This triggered an awareness that has allowed many children to educate their parents by a final performance in the public square, representing the main theme of addressing the nuisance caused by poor environmental management.

The lack of water supply in some villages makes it difficult to set up a toilet. Only a few homes in Tanongou and Koussoukouingou had public toilets. In 2008, to improve the reception of tourists en route to the park Pendjari, this project introduced new, healthier toilet technology.
