Duration: Two days. The days can be booked separately of each other.

Price: From £72 (2 days) including activities as per program, 2 lunches, transportation and local guide (excluding accommodation and flights)
What will I be doing on this trip?
Take a few days off the tourist areas to experience small scale projects (ASSET members) in The Gambia. You will meet the local people and see how tourism can have an impact on a local community and how important it is for tourists to supports these projects. Learn about community involvement, environment development, and poverty reduction initiatives through tourism and about ASSET (Association of Small Scale Enterprises in The Gambia) and get involved with the National Environment Agency to see how they are working in hand with responsible tourism to protect the environment.
My holiday itinerary...
Day 1: Experiences with National Environmental Agency.
After breakfast you will be picked up at your hotel and go to Banjul to visit the National Environment Agency office. Here you will meet different experts who will give information about the work they are doing. From here you will go with the pesticides expert to a women’s garden in the Kombo where the experts will tell more about best practises and pesticides used in agriculture in the Gambia in general. Local lunch will be arranged in the garden area or a restaurant nearby. After lunch visit the legal mining site in Tanji. Afterwards stop at the Senegambia area to see the effects of sand mining. An expert from the coastal and marine unit will accompany you with information. Last stop for the day will be at the industrial area in Kanifing, One of the inspectors or experts in environmental impact assessment will tell about their role in protecting the environment from hazardous industrial activities.
Day 2: Experiences with ASSET members.
First stop is Sifo- a beekeeping farm and traditional home. The goal of the Farm is to improve the livelihood of the members by increasing their skills for income generation to alleviating poverty. Next stop is GiG Farm (Gambia is Good). GiG farm is a project to improve the access for small scale producers. GiG educates their farmers (mostly women) in sustainable gardning and improving quality.The last stop today is PRSP (Paper Recycling Skills Project. You will see how charity is benefiting education by turning waste products into exercise books.

Your visit contributes to that create local economic growth; sharing culture and tradition and supporting sustainable solutions to poverty reduction and conserving the environment. ASSET (Association of Small Scale Enterprises in Tourism in The Gambia) has been successful in promoting small scale enterprises and promoting responsible tourism initiatives. ASSET aims to "bring together, advocate for, and promote a large number of small scale enterprises that are active in the tourism industry in The Gambia."

Where is it?
Banjul, capital of The Gambia, will be the start to your 2 day tour. You will travel down the coast line, past Serrekunda, and all the way down to Gunjur, Kartong and Sifoe giving you an excellent view of the Gambian countryside.
