Mali is the crown jewel of West Africa; culturally and historically rich, but eco-nomically poor. An amazing desert land full of legendary stories and places such as the historic cities of Timbuktu and Djenne; a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the world’s largest mud structure, the Great Mosque of Djenne.
Mali is also known for its distinctive and rich musical tradition which has influ-enced many musical genres throughout the world. Attend the renowned Segou Music Festival along the Niger River.

Trek through Dogon country, one of the most extraordinary places on earth, where people still live in sandstone cliffs.
Watch the colorful DANSES DES MASQUES – (Ceremonial mask dance) – in a traditional village. Also, see the famous port of Mopti, where salt blocks arrive on pirogues from Timbuktu.

You will spend a night under the stars in the Sahara Desert and experience its sublime beauty. There you will enjoy the company of the Tuareg, a proud, ancient nomadic culture struggling to survive. Stay at a Tuareg campement and visit our guide, Mamatal’s family. Appreciate the Tuareg music during a special performance in honor of the group.

This trip is also a fundraiser to help finish the Tuareg school in the Sahara Desert, to provide an education while offering hope for a culturally sustainable future. These children are suffering malnutrition, poverty, and the harsh climate of the desert.  The tour organiser has just completed construction of a well and solar pump to provide clean water for the children. With the money raised they will be able to build the classrooms. A portion of your nominal cost for this trip is tax - deductable.
