West Africa Poetry - Bringing the region alive

Daouda Fall at his house in Toubab Diallo, Senegal
Our resident poet Daouda Fall (Dave the poet) lives in Toubab Dialaw, Senegal and has been writing poems for as long as he can remember.

His mission in life is to raise awareness towards his continent of Africa and to share his passion for peace, sustainability and unity of the African peoples through the medium of his poetry. This is why he tunes in perfectly with the West Africa Discovery mission.

I AM

If somebody exists, I am
If somebody means a human being, I am
If also somebody means a man, I am
Yes, I am somebody!
I have got to live good and be me, and
As long as god wants me to live good
And be like that, I've got
To live well and be so.
I really love life and need peace and
Am always seeking peace, peace is the
Truth and the way to get to peace will
Not take long if you let me live in peace.

Why don’t you let me have peace?
You really don't seem to understand
That I am somebody too, so you see,
Depriving me of the right of having peace
Is depriving yourself of the same right,
You could never have peace in this way
Because I already exist and love my way.
Now you will have to rehearse what I am
Saying here below,

I am, to be
I have to be
And now I need peace
Because I am
