The trip...
Located on the most Western point of Africa the nearby mainland peninsular attracts swell from the North, West and South offering potentially Africa's largest and most consistant swell window.
We always do our best to make sure that our guests are at the best place at the right time. Additionally if you would like to try some other activities on the Island we can organise fishing, snorkelling, wakeboarding and scubadiving, and of course you can also just relax on the beautiful white sandy beaches. |
The Accommodation...
The surfcamp offers a big flowery garden with hammocks and a mauritanian tent where you can relax. We have a solarium from where you can enjoy a nice sea view and see the sunset. The single and double rooms are located around the mainhouse in quiet surroundings. The main house has a dormitory with 7 beds and two family rooms.
We have sea view from the restaurant where breakfast and dinner is served. All the surf camp employees will always do their best to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Your bedroom is cleaned by a maid every day and we have a laundry service available.

The Surf House is very peaceful and located only 50 meters from the beach and one minute walk from the mythical spot of "N'gor right" as seen in the first "Endless Summer" movie. The camp does not have main electricity but we do have a solar system with full lighting, fans, plug sockets in each room for charging mobile phones etc., wireless internet, hot water and showers providing all comfort needed.
The Surf...
This surf camp is situated in a zone where the swell is almost constant, and the temperature of the water at a relatively warm temperature. There are several places along the coast which have been chosen by the camps guide to challenge, entertain and amaze the guests. They are named as 'La baie des Carpes', 'Vivier', 'Club Med', 'N'gor Left', 'N'gor Right', 'Loic Left', 'No Return', 'Ouakam', 'Phillippes' and 'Secret'. Below are some photos of the surf you can expect:
The Location...
The island where the surf camp is based is a very peaceful, almost Caribbean, setting found just off the main-land and reachable only by a short 'pirogue' (traditional fishing boat) trip. As soon as you step off the boat, you will feel the bohemian atmosphere overwhelm you as the island is a hub for creativity, art and music.
On one side of the island (the one facing the main-land), you will find quiet white sandy beaches where the locals set up stalls which offer you the local fish dishes from produce caught that morning; on the other side (facing the Atlantic Ocean) the coast is pounded by almost constant swell in a dramatic yet beautiful scene, showing the might of nature. The Difference...
The surf camp employs 6 locals’ full-time and 3 extra people in the high season. The surf camp brings a lot of business to the local community. We only serve local dishes put together by a local cook and we try to use local products only, for example, for breakfast, we serve local made bissap and baobab juice. Different jelly made from local fruits and designed by the local village. For most of the week we serve local Senegalese dishes. All of the vegetables used are from local farms, and the fish is caught by the local fisherman around the island.
At the surf camp we always encourage our guests to bring their old clothes, and other stuff, to give away to the locals. The surfers who come to the camp are also very good at donating wetsuits, boards and other surf material to the local surfers. We always recommend the locals to give our guests the best local experience. On top of that, we also support all local surf events in the area.
All our energy comes from solar energy, and we collect plastic and metal for recycling. We have our own compost heap, and we collect rain water. Our hot water comes from a solar heating system.
All workers at the camp are from the local N’Gor village, and we perform English language lessons with them because most of our guests speak English. We also train our employees in hospitality.
